Delivered by our longstanding partners, EPI, these courses have a different feel and flavour to our topic-based updates. We will cover techniques to increase your confidence.
Primary care medicine is very often practised in shades of grey.
- Deciding whether to start HRT, whether to refer for knee replacement and how to respond to that request for a PSA test requires a complex thought process for the clinician (that's one reason why many days we feel so tired!)
- Deciding whether to take HRT, have a knee replacement and ask for a PSA test are difficult decisions for patients.
- Informed consent is now defined by the more rigorous 'Montgomery standard' that requires high quality shared decision making can communication of risk.
We need to work in partnership with each individual to help them make the best decision for them.
This course is designed to give you the strategies to effectively share the decision making process with patients. You will also learn how to communicate risks and benefits in the most helpful manner possible and will bring away resources to put these skills straight into practise back at the surgery.
