In this half-day event on ‘Older people and frailty’, we will explore key concepts and skills which are crucial in supporting our older patients - both at home and in nursing home settings. Using a combination of teaching strategies, live interactive cases, polls and discussion we will explore:

• What is normal ageing…and what isn’t?
• The terrible triplets: frailty, multimorbidity and polypharmacy
• How to do a really good medication review and feel good about deprescribing!
• The 3D’s of deterioration: delirium, depression and dementia
• Common primary care problems: falls, recurrent infections and requests for antibiotics.

And we will tie all this together with real-life case scenarios and tools you can use once you are back at the surgery, on home visits or out in nursing homes the next day.

This season, we’ll be covering a wide range of key primary care topics including: 

• Acute coronary syndrome: new NICE guidance on diagnosis and management, how “S.A.B.A” can help us remember the drugs we need to consider in secondary prevention and the important role of cardiac rehab. 
• Atrial fibrillation: we hope to bring you the new NICE guidance as soon as the draft is confirmed (we are sat on the edge of our seat holding the front page) and talk about the key management decisions - to anticoagulate or not to anticoagulate? (quick answer is yes for most - or rather, a shared decision incorporating risk scores - one of which may be new to you!). We will also tackle other important questions, like rate v rhythm control, which anticoagulant and much more.
• Gliflozins:  they’re everywhere – we look at the guidance and evidence for their role in heart failure (yes, you read that right!) and where they fit now in the management of type 2 diabetes, given the growing date on impact on important outcomes. 
• Types of diabetes: do you know your MODY from your LADA? Hint: they aren’t electric cars! We spill all. 
• FIT testing and why we are going to be doing a LOT of it: we’ll share a change in bowel habit GEMS, which pulls together the latest research, evidence and guidelines - when to do a FIT test (clue: nearly ALWAYS!), and how and when to use faecal calprotectin.
• Lung cancer screening and pulmonary nodules: what should we expect as this rolls out and (how) should we manage and communicate with people found to have lung nodules?
• Long-COVID: we explore what we know - and just as importantly what we don’t, and how we can best listen to and support people now. 
• Prescribing updates: including ensuring all patients on long-term steroids who have emergency cards, know the sick-day rules.
