What’s covered?

Right now, it may feel like all our tools for managing pain are being thrown out at the same time as waiting lists are growing, this course aims to give you a whole new set of tools and revitalise your enjoyment of caring for patients with long term MSK conditions and chronic pain (yes really, we promise!). To do this we will:

  • Share the science behind chronic pain and why if can only be in the brain.
  • Explain how we can use this knowledge to reach a greater understanding and partnership with patients.
  • Show you some skills to assess pain using a full range of biopsychosocial tools and how you can translate this assessment into supporting patients with self-care (yes, that’s right you don’t have to do all of this!).
  • Build skills around promoting health behaviour change and patient activation.
  • Look at the nitty gritty of the “bad boy” drugs opiates and gabapentinoids and how, when and whether we should be deprescribing.
  • Amongst other nuggets, cover the MSK big three: back pain, osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis to make sure you are bang up to date and have lots of ideas to take back to the practice.
  • Give you a reference source in the handbook that covers all things MSK!
