Red Whale GP Update Course
This comprehensive, one-day, RCGP accredited course is designed to get you up to speed with the latest evidence and guidance relevant to Primary Care and provides you with 6 CPD credits to help you meet the requirements for appraisals and revalidation.
The GP presenters summarise and discuss the results of the most important new evidence and guidance, concentrating on what it means to you and your patients in the consulting room tomorrow.
Delivered in a lecture based format, with plenty of time for interaction, humour and video clips, to keep you focused and awake.
On the day, registration starts at 9.00am and the course runs from 9.30 to 5.00pm. The course fee includes refreshments throughout the day and a buffet lunch.
Our Red Whale courses are designed for:
- GPs, locum GPs, primary care trainers and appraisers preparing for appraisal and revalidation, or those wanting to keep up to date across the whole field of general practice.
- GP ST1, 2 & 3, looking for the perfect launch pad into general practice and help with AKT and CSA revision.
- GPs who want to be brought up to speed following maternity leave or a career break.
- Pharmacists, and General Practice Nurses (especially those seeing patients with chronic diseases).
- Anyone with a pile of unread medical journals they wish to file in the recycle bin!
Will we tell you everything you need to know?…no! But we will tell you about the latest evidence, what it means in practice, and give you some practical tips on how to change your practice (and perhaps that of your colleagues!)
We will cover all the big chronic diseases including:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Diabetes
- Renal disease
As well as:
- Respiratory medicine
- Mental health
We will also cover the latest developments relevant to primary care in:
- Gastroenterology
- Neurology
- Musculoskeletal medicine
- Cancer care
- Sexual health
- Common infections
Plus, we will cover some themes during the day, focusing on the latest evidence in relation to particular groups including:
- Child and adolescent health
- Women's health
- Men's health
- Health in older people
- A printed copy of the GP Update Handbook including the results of the most important research in primary care over the last 5 years. It covers the subjects more extensively than is possible in the course.
- 12 months subscription to www.gpcpd.com. With three times the content of the handbook, it allows you to capture CPD credits as you read on the site and use it in consultations! It also comes with focussed learning activities to earn further CPD credits…at the end of the year you simply upload everything ready for your appraiser.
- A buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
- The feel good factor of knowing you needn’t feel guilty about recycling those unread journals in the corner of your room!
"I will retire in six months. I have been on several of your courses, but this will be my last. You enthuse and educate, and upon reflection I suspect you have indirectly enormously improved care in the UK.”
“Well thought out. Refreshing not to have lecturers guided by drug companies!”
“Brilliant as usual, always fills me with energy – I wish I could bottle that and the advice.”
“Gives me an annual kick up the bum”
“Enthusiastically delivered with much appreciated pragmatism”
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for an incredibly worthwhile, relevant, entertaining and interesting course. I have been on a number of your courses now, and will continue to attend, and they are by far, the best courses for keeping up to date, maintaining knowledge and allowing considerations to change my practice that are available. Thank you."
“Very enthusiastic, good timing, well presented, good humour. No comparison thus far. Best one yet!”
“I wish all my medical school teaching had been this good! Relevant, engaging and enthusiastic. The lack of drug company involvement is noticeable and much appreciated”
“I think this course should be made an essential part of our appraisal!”
“We use this as our practice away day. Excellent! Back again from last year”
“One of the best courses I have attended and I have attended a few.”
"100 times and over I will tell all GP trainees and colleagues about this course"
