Who is this course designed for?

Established GPs

The challenge of telephone consultations were not covered in the training of most established GPs. We focus on the real-world implications for all established GPs.

GPs doing OOH work

The telephone consultation element is very important in OOH work. We teach a framework and offer to enhance your skills. Our messages are relevant to OOH settings.

Teachers of GPRs, other doctors, nurses etc..

Even if you are experienced in communication skills teaching, the day is likely to give you new ideas and structures for your teaching.

GP Registrars

GPRs have different things to gain at different levels. At ST1/2, to learn an effective framework for telephone consultations. Just before or just at the start of ST3 - to focus down on the real work of general practice. In preparation for CSA - to find some particularly useful strategies for the CSA (this challenge may present in a CSA case).

ST3

If you are preparing for CSA, then we recommend coming before you attend a formal RCGP (or other) CSA preparation course. 2 or 3 months pre-CSA is ideal. And if you have passed the CSA, you might find the real-world focus of our course appealing too - as preparation for your first independent GP post.

Maternity and career break returners

Those returning from maternity leave or a career break who need to be bought up to speed with current practice. This is a large (and growing) challenge in GP work.

Practice nurses and Nurse Practitioners

Nurses who manage chronic conditions can enhance their effectiveness with greater and more effective use of telephone follow up. Some Practice Nurses and Nurse Practitioners are involved in telephone triage.
