Improve Your Telephone Consultation Effectiveness

With the increased importance of telephone consultations and ongoing requirements to help patients to make behaviour changes, this one day small group course for GPs, GP Registrars and Practice Nurses aims to deliver practical skills which can be put to use immediately.

Directed by Dr Malcolm Thomas and Dr Gill Fraser.

The telephone is being used more and more by nurses as well as doctors in primary care. For triage, consultation and follow-up; in the daytime as well as out of hours. This has forced a move from ad-hoc use of the telephone to a planned and managed one and yet few doctors or nurses have ever had any training in this important area of clinical effectiveness.

Our practical exercises throughout the day are designed to address these issues head on. The exercises are short, structured and aimed at the real world. There is no role play in front of the group and no audio or video recording.

Who is this course for?

All clinicians in primary care, of whatever vintage. AiTS, new GPs, experienced GPs, nurses and other primary care clinical professionals.

Do I need to have attended an Effective Consultation Day first?

You do not need to have attended any other consultation day in order to fully benefit. If you have already attended the Effective Consultation Course then you will find the content of this course totally complementary.

Everything we present is fully referenced - so if you want to do some more research or read the original article you can, but you don't have to.

In line with all our courses, delegates will find this an evidence based, entertaining, fast-paced, relevant and very practical day. We focus on actions and you will leave with many practical tips to use on the phone and in your consulting room the following day.

Importantly, we have no involvement whatsoever with pharmaceutical companies, so there will be no biasing of the information presented to you.
